Bottas still unsure about 2012 Williams seat

30 November 2011

Valtteri Bottas is one of several drivers in the running for a Williams race seat in 2012, especially after it was confirmed that Kimi Räikkönen will be rejoining Formula 1 with LRGP and not the Grove-based team. However, the Finnish reserve driver and GP3 Champion remains wholly unsure over the ongoing situation.

After recovering from an early-season slump as the fortunes of others went the opposite way, Bottas clinched the GP3 crown while working at the Williams factory in his role as reserve.

With the futures of Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado unknown, Bottas is now one of several Williams candidates along with Adrian Sutil, Dutchman Giedo van der Garde and Italy’s Mirko Bortolotti.

“I’m not sure whether they were viewing my performance for next year or the one after,” Bottas, who ran with Williams in the post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Young Driver test, told Finland’s Turun Sanomat newspaper. “I can’t really say if a call is going to come or not.”

The 22-year-old added that, if the step up to F1 does not come next year, GP2 and the World Series by Renault remain the only two beneficial alternatives.
