LRGP targets title 'in two or three years'

10 December 2011

Lotus Renault GP has outlined its plans to become World Champions by the end of 2014, with the Enstone squad full of optimism after forming a brand-new driver line-up for the upcoming campaign. Former title winner Kimi Räikkönen will be joined by this year’s GP2 Champion Romain Grosjean, the latter replacing Russia’s Vitaly Petrov.

"We've changed our two drivers, which is not fashionable but corresponds to owners Genii's desire to become a 'top team' again," team boss Eric Boullier commented. "The plan is to be World Champions in two or three years' time."

Grosjean is also in high spirits, with the Frenchman set to begin his second stretch in the sport after a seven-race phase at Renault back in 2009.

"World Champion in two or three years, that's fine by me," Grosjean laughed. "It's hard to describe how I feel. I've had a rather unusual journey with a first stint in Formula 1 which ended in a not very glorious fashion but which was necessary for my maturity. It all makes me believe that perseverance pays off."

Boullier added that he doesn't know whether there will be a future for the recovering Robert Kubica at Lotus, the latter unable to give an accurate timeframe for a return.
