Räikkönen given all-clear after skidoo crash

10 December 2011

Newly-signed Lotus Renault GP driver Kimi Räikkönen has been cleared of serious injury after a snowmobile crash in Austria. The Finn fell from his 75-horsepower skidoo during the annual Swatch Snow Mobile Race on Saturday, with paramedics having to alleviate a small amount of pain to his left hand.

The news of Räikkönen's accident comes just one day after Frenchman Romain Grosjean was revealed as the 2007 Champion's future team-mate, with the pair marking an all-new driver line-up for the Enstone squad as it attempts a return to winning ways.

"Our doctor has examined Kimi's left hand, and he is now wearing a small bandage," explained Chief Organizer Andy Wernig, whose five-day event is taking place at the popular Saalbach-Hinterglemm resort.

The team also confirmed via its official Twitter account that there are no injury concerns, explaining: "We just spoke to Kimi. There's nothing to worry about, he only has a sore wrist. He might have it checked again on Monday, but that's all."

This afternoon's incident will serve as a scary reminder to team boss Eric Boullier, who was forced to replace Robert Kubica for the entire 2011 campaign after the latter suffered a horrific crash during February's Ronde di Andora in Italy.
