Di Resta yearning for same chance as Vettel

11 December 2011

Force India's Paul di Resta has spoken out over Sebastian Vettel’s most recent title success, explaining that other drivers on the current Formula 1 grid ‘would probably have achieved the same results’ if they were given his current machinery.

Di Resta was able to beat his German rival when they were F3 Euro Series team-mates back in 2006, confidently outscoring the Red Bull driver by a total of 11 points en route to the Drivers' crown.

"We had the same car, same engine, same tyres and I beat him," di Resta, who was the highest placed rookie in 2011, told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I don’t want to diminish Vettel’s achievement (this season), but he won the championship because he had the best car.

"He did his job, but another driver in the same car would probably have achieved the same results. I hope one day to have the same opportunity."

Livingston-born di Resta is yet to be confirmed at Force India for the 2012 season, with Adrian Sutil and Nico Hülkenberg also in the running for full-time drives.
