The rebranded Caterham F1 Team took a visual step closer to its name change this week as the first new signs were fitted to the exterior of its Hingham factory in Norfolk.
The Tony Fernandes-run squad entered the sport as ‘Lotus Racing’ in 2010 before winning the rights to run as ‘Team Lotus’ this season. Following a drawn-out legal battle with Proton’s Group Lotus, the car manufacturer behind road models, the latter was granted exclusive rights to the name.
As such, ‘Team Lotus’ becomes ‘Caterham F1 Team’ next year, whereas the chassis of Lotus Renault GP are now officially named ‘Lotus’ as opposed to ‘Renault’. The outfit's driver line-up of Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli is set to remain for 2012, with both men holding contracts.
Chief Technical Officer Mike Gascoyne also confirmed via his personal Twitter that the team's future challenger has passed all of the initial FIA homologation tests, explaining: "Great week. Renaming as Caterham F1 Team on Tuesday and today (Friday) our first chassis, CT-01 passes all FIA homologation test. Well done all."
