Luis Pérez-Sala, HRT F1’s recently promoted Team Principal, has explained that he is in no rush to confirm a second driver for the 2012 season, with an announcement now expected after Christmas. The former F1 driver says it is currently one of ‘the least urgent’ matters on his demanding list for the upcoming campaign.
"We are in advanced talks with several drivers but we can’t anticipate anything yet," Pérez-Sala commented on his plans. "It’s a decision we surely won’t make until the start of next year because, at this stage, who will be the team’s second driver for next season is perhaps the least urgent one right now."
2011 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi is yet to secure an extension to his contract with the outfit and, making life more difficult for the Italian, Jaime Alguersuari has now emerged as a strong favourite for the spare seat after being ousted from midfield runners Toro Rosso.
Aside from the aforementioned duo, the long list of men also vying for a full-time drive in the sport includes Adrian Sutil, Rubens Barrichello, Vitaly Petrov, Bruno Senna, Jérôme d'Ambrosio, Sébastien Buemi and Giedo van der Garde.
