Bernie Ecclestone believes Formula 1 will never be ‘big’ in the United States as the country is excessively keen on making money from the sport too soon. Next season, F1 will return to the USA for the first time in five years.
F1’s American comeback will be staged at the brand-new Circuit of the Americas in Texas before a New Jersey street event joins the calendar in 2013. However, FOM head Ecclestone is not expecting a major success.
“The US has been slow to get F1 because they want to see a profit before they start,” Ecclestone told Al Jazeera. “Formula 1 will not be big in America. But Formula 1 will be in Russia for 2014 and in South Africa by 2013, even.”
The latest new race was that of India, which took place in October and was won convincingly by double World Champion Sebastian Vettel.
