HRT: Signing Alguersuari is unlikely

21 December 2011

HRT has cast further doubt over the Formula 1 career of Jaime Alguersuari, with the Spaniard having been left on the sidelines by Toro Rosso. Although the Murcia-based team has already signed Pedro de la Rosa, new Team Principal Luis Pérez-Sala does not expect the second Barcelona driver to join.

“It's bad news and hard to believe,” ex driver Perez-Sala told Spain’s Radio Marca after Alguersuari and team-mate Sébastien Buemi were dropped in favour of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne.

“It would be a dream and the best Christmas present if we had him, but it is not really realistic because we already have a waiting list of other drivers.”

Both 2011 Toro Rosso drivers are hunting for 2012 race seats, plus former LRGP pairing Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna as well as Rubens Barrichello and Adrian Sutil.
