Kimi Räikkönen has no concerns over his speed or motivation ahead of a Formula 1 return in 2012. The World Champion of 2007 makes his comeback following two seasons in the World Rally Championship and NASCAR.
Having been dropped by Ferrari in favour of Fernando Alonso, despite still being contracted to the Italian team for 2010, Räikkönen now returns to the sport with Lotus Renault GP. Many questioned his desire prior to departing in 2009, although the Espoo man is convinced that he will be on the pace immediately.
“I am more motivated than ever and I don’t think I’ve lost any speed,” Räikkönen comments. “Getting on top of the (Pirelli) tyres will be the hardest thing, of course, but I’m not really worried.
“Although the technical regulations don’t seem to change much, they apply to a lot of areas and quite a few elements will have to be re-designed. As a result, the cars will be significantly different next year. The order could be shaken up, which will make things very interesting.”
Räikkönen will be partnered by reigning GP2 Champion Romain Grosjean, who is also returning to F1 for the first time since 2009.
