'Impossible to be worse in 2012' - Maldonado

30 December 2011

Pastor Maldonado has explained that it is ‘impossible’ for Williams to deliver a worse overall performance than it did this season, with the squad enduring its worst campaign in the sport to date. With just five points to its name throughout the 19-race year, Maldonado hopes a drastic improvement can be made in 2012.

"I trust the team because it is impossible to be worse than this year," he told Brazilian website TotalRace. "I'm sure we will improve, as we have worked hard to grow as a team. I hope we have a better car, one that is more competitive so that we can always fight for points and higher positions."

Maldonado added that his situation could not have been much worse as a rookie, having to cope with sub-standard machinery whilst learning the ropes.

"I believe that was the worst position for a rookie, when nothing worked, especially in the first year, you have to learn many things. Nevertheless, I defended myself well, even against Rubens. It certainly was a year of learning. I adapted very quickly and I felt really good within the team, which is very good."
