Bianchi targets dual F1 role for 2013

3 January 2012

Although the 2012 Formula 1 season is yet to begin, Jules Bianchi already has his sights set on a race drive for 2013. The Frenchman, who remains a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, hopes to adopt a twofold driving situation next year.

A dominant F3 Euro Series Champion of 2009, Bianchi won one GP2 race in 2011 en route to third overall in the championship. He is now planning his F1 debut.

“I will continue to try getting as much information as possible out of F1 and garner as much experience as possible to earn a race drive in 2013,” the 22-year-old from Nice explained to French radio station RMC.

“I felt ready for 2012 but I have remained on the sidelines – it’s a bit hard to take but that is the way F1 is. I won’t give in and will try to do it in 2013. The aim will be to find a team which can give me the most mileage on-track, while staying associated with Ferrari.”

Three French drivers will be on the grid in 2012; newly-crowned GP2 Champion Romain Grosjean makes his return with LRGP as newcomers Jean-Éric Vergne and Charles Pic are introduced to the sport with Toro Rosso and Marussia, respectively.
