Mark Webber will be the first driver to sample Red Bull’s new RB8, according to German publication Auto Motor und Sport. World Champion team-mate Sebastian Vettel will then complete the second half of the test at Jerez.
With the south of Spain hosting the opening day of Formula 1 testing on Tuesday 7 February, just under five weeks remain until the action is back underway. According to the German press, the decision not to run Vettel as the first driver could help the double title winner avoid any initial technical problems with the Renault-powered car.
Meanwhile, Mercedes has already announced that it will skip the first test in order to garner more development time, therefore making its inaugural 2012 appearance with Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher a fortnight later in Barcelona.
