Buemi to be Toro Rosso reserve as well

Buemi to be Toro Rosso reserve as well

5 January 2012

Toro Rosso has confirmed that Sébastien Buemi will be playing a joint role for the 2012 Formula 1 season, serving as third driver for both of the Red Bull-owned teams.

The Swiss takes up a position held by Daniel Ricciardo last year, meaning he will step into the cockpit of the Australian or F1 newcomer Jean-Éric Vergne if either of the two is unable to race. Equally, Buemi will be racing for title-winners Red Bull Racing in the event of Mark Webber or Sebastian Vettel being absent.

Buemi joined Toro Rosso at the start of 2009, achieving a points finish in his first Grand Prix. Like team-mate Jaime Alguersuari, he was dropped at the end of 2011.
