Robert Kubica has returned home to Monaco following another accident and resultant surgery last Friday. The Pole, who was already set to miss out on a second successive season of Formula 1, broke his right Tibia after slipping on ice in Italy.
Kubica was spending time in Italy at an apartment in Pietrasanta, only to slip on an icy pavement and fracture his right Tibia – bone connecting the knee and ankle - for the second time within a year. On Friday, surgery was carried out at the Hospital Carlo Poma in Mantua, which was later described as ‘perfectly successful’ by doctors.
After a period of bed rest over the weekend, the Kraków-born driver has been discharged and is continuing his recovery at home in Monte Carlo, according to the Italian media. At the same time, the 27-year-old is attempting to regain the full nervous abilities of his right hand following the near-fatal rallying accident of last February.
Should he be able to return to F1 in 2013, Kubica’s contract with Lotus Renault GP will have expired. He has recently been linked with a possible Ferrari test outing.
