Barrichello: The future is wide open

17 January 2012

Rubens Barrichello has responded to Tuesday’s news that he will not be driving in Formula 1 with Williams. As fellow Brazilian countryman Bruno Senna has been signed to race alongside Pastor Maldonado, Barrichello is seemingly forced into retirement from the sport.

In an undesired F1 exit which bears a similarity with that of Eddie Irvine in 2002, Barrichello has been left on the sidelines like fellow 2011 competitor Adrian Sutil, who was also vying for the sole remaining Williams seat.

“Twitter friends…I won't be driving the Williams car this year. I wish my friend (Bruno Senna) all the best. The future is wide open,’ Barrichello posted via Twitter.

Barrichello made his F1 debut with Jordan in 1993, then spending a stint with Stewart before winning his first Grand Prix with Ferrari in 2000. In 2006 came a move to Honda. Ironically, he beat Senna Jr. to a drive at Brawn GP for 2009 before making his move to Williams for the start of the 2010 campaign.
