Sutil now has two options, says manager

18 January 2012

Since Bruno Senna has been signed as the second Williams driver, Adrian Sutil is left with two options. That is according to his manager, who is attempting to find a new stable for the German driver after being left on the sidelines by Force India.

Replaced by F1 returnee Nico Hülkenberg, Sutil – like Rubens Barrichello – was chasing the Williams vacancy alongside Pastor Maldonado. However, his management’s strategy had changed even before Tuesday’s confirmation of Senna.

“The announcement of Bruno Senna as a Williams driver does not surprise us,” manager Manfred Zimmermann explained to Germany’s Motor-Total.com, adding that Sutil is now left with ‘two options’. “For us, that issue was already settled two weeks ago. The negotiations with Williams ended in mid-December due to differing ideas.”

Only one race seat remains unconfirmed on the 2012 F1 grid, which is that of HRT alongside Pedro de la Rosa; Vitantonio Liuzzi continues to reiterate that he has two years remaining on his contract but admits that the deal could be broken if the Spanish team finds a driver with more promising financial aspects. Sutil’s best alternative could now be a third driver position with a race seat promise for 2013 - similar to the strategy Hülkenberg adapted last year.

At the end of the month, Sutil will stand trial following an incident in a Shanghai nightclub after last year's Chinese Grand Prix.
