Toro Rosso to run new car in Jerez

20 January 2012

Toro Rosso has confirmed that its 2012 car, the STR7, will be in action from the opening test session in Jerez. An official launch presentation is yet to be confirmed.

For the sixth consecutive year, Toro Rosso’s contender will be powered by a Ferrari engine; in its maiden F1 campaign of 2006, the power units came from Cosworth.

“Having previously passed various static crash tests, our new car, the TR7, has passed all remaining FIA crash tests,” the Italian, Red Bull-owned squad explained on its website. “These are compulsory for all cars that will compete in the Formula 1 World Championship and this year they were even more stringent, as the sport’s governing body continues to pursue safety as one of its main aims in the sport.”

After Jaime Alguersuari and Sébastien Buemi were dropped, Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo and France’s Jean-Éric Vergne make up an all-new Toro Rosso line-up.
