The weekend’s demonstration of a 2008 Ferrari Formula 1 car managed to attract some 20,000 spectators in Qatar. The Italian team was present with reserve driver Marc Gené in order to introduce the second edition of the Qatar Motor Show.
The 37-year-old Catalan was in action with an F2008, the like of which took Felipe Massa to a narrow championship runner-up spot just over three years ago. The Barcelona driver reached speeds of up to 300km/h (185mph) on a three kilometre-long root in Doha.
“The experience was beautiful and it was some of the nicest scenery I have ever seen for driving a Formula 1 car. It was a big crowd, all very excited, and I could see they were really cheering for the Formula 1 car. The show was great because the circuit was very good, so a perfect event.”
Ferrari’s 2012 contender will be launched in Maranello next Friday, 3 February.
