Hamilton unable to attend Sutil court hearing

24 January 2012

Lewis Hamilton has informed the court hearing Adrian Sutil’s upcoming trial that he will not be able to attend, according to BBC Sport. The trial will take place next week and Hamilton had been set to testify following an incident in Shanghai last April.

Ex Force India driver Sutil has been charged with grievous bodily harm after allegedly striking Eric Lux, founding partner of Genii Capital (co-owner of the Lotus Formula 1 team), with a broken glass. Hamilton was due to give evidence, as he had been nearby at the time of the nightclub incident.

The hearing is set to take place on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The court will now decide whether to postpone proceedings or excuse Hamilton as a witness.
