Hembery: No truth in Petrov rumours

25 January 2012

Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery has denied truth in any rumours of Vitaly Petrov being signed up by the Italian company. Gossip started to circulate the internet on Wednesday after the Russian driver was invited to Pirelli’s 2012 Formula 1 tyre presentation in Abu Dhabi.

Dropped by Lotus Renault GP, Petrov remains on the driver market with only a sole race seat remaining at HRT. Hearsay also links him to Jarno Trulli's Caterham position.

However, after reports were published about the Pirelli test job, Hembery was quick to respond.

“Just to clarify Vitaly is here as a guest, we do not have a test car never mind talking test drivers. So no truth in rumours,” Hembery posted through his personal Twitter account.

Petrov is Russia’s only F1 driver to date, having debuted with Renault in 2010. He picked up his first and so far only podium finish at last year’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
