Adrian Sutil has told a Munich court that he ‘tried everything’ to settle the dispute between himself and Eric Lux. The CEO of Genii Capital, co-owner of the Lotus F1 team, was allegedly stabbed in the neck by Sutil with a broken glass.
The reported incident occurred on the night after last year’s Chinese Grand Prix, with Sutil, Lux and a selection of other Formula 1 personalities having been present in a Shanghai nightclub. Whereas Lux continues to testify that the moment was thoroughly deliberate, Sutil has previously said that he meant to throw the contents of the glass but not the object itself. Afterwards, Lux required 24 stitches.
“I did everything to try to settle this row,” Sutil told the court, according to Reuters, adding that he volunteered to offer charity work in Africa. “I am really sorry, extremely sorry. I never wanted for this to happen.”
Lux, also in court on Monday, insists that he expected a face-to-face apology from the former Force India driver in Luxembourg, where he resides.
“A phone call is not good enough,” he said.
Sutil is facing a one-year suspended sentence for assault and grievous bodily harm. A decision will be made by the court when the trial ends on Tuesday.
