The newly-named Lotus F1 team (formerly Renault) has made several personnel changes ahead of the 2012 season. This sees Patrick Louis receive a promotion, moving up from Chief Operating Officer to Chief Executive Officer. At the same time, Thomas Mayer takes up the role of Chief Operating Officer. The changes are made in an attempt to be challenging again for world titles in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Louis joined the Enstone squad in 2010 and was initially assigned with the task of modifying the structures of the team. His new role will mean concentrating on ‘efficient utilisation of this restructuring’, according to an official press release. Mayer has a background in human resources and will now work closely with both Louis and Team Principal Eric Boullier to oversee processes and production.
“Our fight to return to the front of the grid is a continual process and we are leaving no stone unturned,” says Gerard Lopez, team Chairman. “The contributions that Patrick Louis and Eric Boullier have made so far have been invaluable and we are now able to better focus their efforts through the addition of Thomas Mayer as Chief Operating Officer.
“Thomas comes to us with over 15 years’ professional experience. He has an in-depth knowledge of running large operations incorporating production, logistics and organisational structuring. Our efforts are concerted behind our objective to be a contender once more for the 2015-16 championships, to continue the proud heritage of the 1994-95 and 2005-6 World Championship titles achieved by Enstone.”
The team started life as Toleman in 1981, then becoming Benetton as Michael Schumacher won its first two titles. The second pair came courtesy of Fernando Alonso, with the team having rebranded as Renault in 2002.
