Kobayashi targets regular points finishes

Kamui Kobayashi aims for consistent top ten finishes in what is his third full Formula 1 season this year. After entering the sport for two races with Toyota at the end of 2009, the Japanese has ended his past two campaigns with 12th in the final championship standings.

Last season, Sauber began the year with a double points finish in Melbourne, even though both cars were eventually disqualified due to rear wing irregularities. In 2012, 25-year-old Kobayashi hopes to begin in the top ten and remains in the points all season long.

“2012 will be not only my third season in Formula 1, but also my third with the same team,” he says. “We’ve been through a lot together and can benefit from our shared experiences. In my first year with the team, we had a bad start but a good second half to the season; the second year was the exact reverse.

"In our third year together we should be a reliable bet to finish consistently in the points. I’m really looking forward to the new season with Sauber.”

Sauber’s new car, the C31, was unveiled by Kobayashi and team-mate Sergio Pérez on Monday morning. Testing starts in Spain tomorrow, with the former driving first.
