After experiencing a selection of positive and negative moments in his rookie F1 season, Sergio Pérez aims for a gradual improvement in 2012. The Mexican, who suffered a large accident in Monaco last year but also finished in the points on six occasions, unveiled the new Sauber C31 with Kamui Kobayashi in Jerez on Monday.
Although Paul di Resta beat Pérez to 2011’s unofficial ‘Rookie of the Year’ title, the latter – a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and tipped to drive for the Scuderia in the future - is fully confident of cementing his name in the sport this year.
“My first year in Formula 1 felt like three years, there were so many new things to take in,” he says, with a notable moment being the crash in Monte Carlo qualifying which resulted in his absence from two Grands Prix.
“But now I feel like I’ve arrived in Formula 1 and I’m determined to take a step up in 2012 and achieve better results for the team on a regular basis.”
Kobayashi is first to test the new Sauber tomorrow, with Pérez stepping into the cockpit for his first taste on Wednesday.
