Red Bull Racing has launched the car with which it is aiming to claim third straight titles in Formula 1. The World Champions released photos of the RB8 from a sunny Jerez on what is the final day before pre-season testing starts in Spain.
As previously reported, the new car is an evolution of its all-conquering predecessor which won over 60 percent of last year’s races. The nose section features a drop from the front of the monocoque to cater for improved safety regulations and, crucially, the exhaust-blown diffuser concept which was pioneered by Red Bull is now outlawed.
For 2012, Red Bull’s line-up is slightly modified as former reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo takes up a full-time race seat with sister team Toro Rosso, whose own new car will be unveiled later today. Swiss Sébastien Buemi, who has occupied a race seat at Toro Rosso for the last three seasons, is now the official reserve driver for both outfits.
"Obviously we had a great year and we’ll always look back to 2011 and think how special it was," says double title winner Sebastian Vettel. "But, to be honest, you don’t start a season with expectations of a similar season. We know how special it was and we really enjoyed that, but we know how hard it is to be that consistent, always there and on the podium in nearly every race.
"So the target is obviously to try and do it again, and try and get everything out of ourselves, so we’ll see how we get on with the new RB8."
