Kamui Kobayashi was pleased to report positive first impressions of the Sauber C31 as F1 pre-season testing began on Tuesday. Although he stopped on-track 20 minutes before the chequered flag, possibly conducting a fuel-out run, the Japanese notched up more laps than anybody by circulating the Jerez circuit 106 times.
“I’m happy,” he said upon his return to the paddock. “The new car feels fine. We managed good mileage today despite a small problem in the morning session. Running today wasn’t about performance but focused on checking systems and reliability.
"Nevertheless, I got the impression the new Pirelli tyres might be good for us. I am looking forward to the next tests and to further work on the car.”
Today’s programme revolved around setup work, experimenting with fuel loads and general system checks for the new car. Sergio Pérez will be driving on Wednesday.
