Despite an early delay while fog played havoc with deliveries of new parts, Red Bull's Mark Webber declared himself happy after Day 1 in Jerez. The Australian completed 54 laps of the Spanish venue, quickly getting to grips with his new machine.

"It was good," said Webber, speaking about the debut of the RB8. "I felt quite comfortable in the car quite quickly. It’s very early days, but so far so good.

"We had a small delay this morning with a part due to fog at the airport. It’s never part of the plan to give up running time, but you can’t control mother nature. However, we made a good recovery, got 54 laps done this afternoon and we’ll aim for a better day tomorrow."

After the setback during the early hours of the day, Webber set about testing the airflow through the slot in the RB8's stepped nose. The 35-year-old ended up fourth quickest for his team, just ahead of compatriot Daniel Ricciardo in the Toro Rosso.
