Paul di Resta wound up second after the opening day of testing at Jerez, completing a total of 106 laps. The Scot, who begins his second campaign with Force India this season, was the first to get behind the wheel of the VMJ05 during a media day at Silverstone last Friday and drove the car in anger for the first time today.
“A good start to our winter test programme with 101 laps completed, which allowed us to get through all our objectives and a bit more," di Resta began: "The baseline balance felt pretty good and the car performed consistently over the longer runs, which was useful for collecting the data we need."
Speaking about what is to follow over the next few days, di Resta added: "I think we can be positive heading into tomorrow and the next three days will be interesting as we have more test items to evaluate. On a personal level it’s also nice to spend such a busy day in the car to shake off the rust and assess my fitness level.”
Di Resta will lap for a further afternoon tomorrow, allowing reserve driver Jules Bianchi time in the car when the pit lane opens, before new full-time team-mate Nico Hülkenberg gets his first opportunity inside the car from Thursday lunchtime.
