Following Day 2 of the ongoing Jerez test on Wednesday, timesheet-topping Michael Schumacher was pleased with Mercedes’ progress so far. Driving the 2011 car, to allow for more factory development time with the new chassis, the German was also able to enjoy a more direct comparison of the modified Pirelli tyres.

“We made the most of a reliable car to do lots of laps and learn a lot about the new Pirelli tyres and how they perform on longer and shorter runs, plus with different setup configurations,” the seven-time Champion explained.

“It was a good and productive test, full of lots of useful information for the season ahead, and I am now looking forward to driving our 2012 car for the first time at the next test.”

Schumacher will be back in action at the second of three tests this winter, with the next two both in Barcelona. On Thursday, Nico Rosberg has returned to the cockpit for what is the Brackley team’s final day of action this week.
