Häkkinen’s manager joins Hamilton’s company

Häkkinen’s manager joins Hamilton’s company

9 February 2012

Didier Coton, former manager of double F1 Champion Mika Häkkinen, has been recruited by the XIX Entertainment company which looks after Lewis Hamilton’s career. Also this week, Caterham's Heikki Kovalainen has joined IMG Worldwide.

XIX Entertainment - owned by Simon Fuller, who manages sports stars such as David Beckham and Andy Murray as well as a number of singers - began its partnership with Hamilton in 2011. However, both parties have been critisised for their approach, with Hamilton having previously split on a professional basis from father Anthony.

“Simon is committed to creating a team that will help me achieve my ambitions for 2012 and beyond,” Hamilton told the Press Association.

“Didier's appointment builds on the existing strengths of XIX and I'm delighted to have him as part of the team. I'm positive about the season ahead and can't wait to start.”

At the same time, former team-mate Kovalainen – who partnered Hamilton at McLaren in 2008 and 2009 – has taken on the services of IMG Worldwide, the company which works with IndyCar’s Danica Patrick and has previously dealt with Formula 1 stars Jackie Stewart, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.
