Kamui Kobayashi book-ended the four day test at Jerez this afternoon, ending his time behind the wheel in sixth position, one place higher than he managed on Tuesday. Kobayashi spent the day completing aero tests with Sauber's new C31 chassis, plus gathered specific and valuable data with the 2012-spec Pirelli tyres.
"If I look at the whole picture I am happy with the first test," he said. "For sure we have found the right direction to go in. The car didn’t surprise us with any big issues, which allowed us to work on improvements straight away."
After a hydraulic leak in the afternoon caused him to grind to a halt with two hours remaining, Kobayashi was still able to tour the circuit a final 18 times before the day was up.
"We lost track time due to small problems and I want to thank the mechanics for all their work," the Japanese driver added. "Today they did a great job to get me out on track again. In the end I did 76 laps today which isn’t too bad. We have some ideas of what our next steps will be and I’m very much looking forward to the Barcelona tests."
Kobayashi will drive for the final two days of the Barcelona test which begins on Tuesday 21 February, after Mexican Sergio Pérez's stint on Tuesday and Wednesday.
