16 February 2012

Nigel Mansell, Formula 1 World Champion of 1992, has been presented with a CBE by HRH Prince Charles for services to children. The former Lotus, Williams and Ferrari driver was presented at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Not honoured for motor racing achievements on this occasion, Mansell – the only driver in history to hold Formula 1 and IndyCar titles at the same time – was awarded the CBE as recognition for his work as President of charity UK Youth.

“What an amazing day - very humbling and brilliant for UK Youth,” Mansell said on Twitter. “So proud to receive the CBE on behalf of the charity.

The accolade had been announced on the New Year’s honours list.
