HRT not taking 2011 car to Barcelona

16 February 2012

HRT has confirmed to GPUpdate.net that it will not be taking its 2011 car to either of the upcoming Formula 1 test sessions in Barcelona. The Spanish squad ran last year’s contender at the opening pre-season gathering in Jerez as development of its new machine was delayed following the failure of two crash tests.

In a new regulation for 2012, all cars must pass every crash test before being run on a circuit; previously, the tests only had to be cleared before the opening race weekend. The crash tests in question were those of the roll hoop and lateral nose (two of 17 tests).

At the second Barcelona test, running between 1-4 March, the outfit plans to be running its new chassis; for its third season in the sport, HRT is employing F1 returnee Pedro de la Rosa alongside Narain Karthikeyan, who has been retained by the squad.
