Bottas to enjoy test outing in Barcelona

17 February 2012

Williams reserve driver Valtteri Bottas will enjoy a full day of testing as Formula 1’s winter season continues in Barcelona next week. The 22-year-old Finn, reigning GP3 Champion, will be in the cockpit for an entire day of running on Wednesday.

The team’s test programme will start with Bruno Senna on Tuesday, with Bottas enjoying his stint on Wednesday. Pastor Maldonado will then be in the car for the final two days of the test, having lost much track time in Jerez due to technical problems.

Bottas carries a strong racing record. After finishing third in the Formula Renault 2.0 North European Cup in 2007, he become Champion in 2008 as well as wrapping up the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup title.

He was third overall in the F3 Euro Series of 2009 and 2010 and during both seasons won the Masters of F3 event at Zandvoort. In 2010, he also finished on the podium in the Macau Grand Prix.

Last year, Bottas endured a tough first half to his GP3 campaign with Lotus ART, although strong form in the second part of the year brought four wins from 16 races.

Williams’ Barcelona (1) line-up is as follows:

Tuesday - Bruno Senna
Wednesday - Valtteri Bottas
Thursday - Pastor Maldonado
Friday - Pastor Maldonado
