Red Bull boss Christian Horner has backed the FIA over Formula 1's planned return to Bahrain, with the Gulf State set to host the fourth round of the season on 22 April. Last year's race was ultimately cancelled following major political riots and violence, but Horner is extremely confident that the coming Grand Prix will take place as planned.
“As far as I'm aware we're definitely going (to Bahrain),” Horner explained. “We rely on the FIA - it's the FIA Formula One world championship after all - and Bahrain is one of the races on the calendar. They are far better placed to know what the issues are, and we trust their judgment, as we do the promoter, and we'll see how things develop."
Horner added that the governing body's final decision will be completely trusted, with the teams currently fully prepared to fly to the country and race.
"As of today there's a race committed to Bahrain, and we'll be there," he added of his outfit's stance. "From a team point of view we'll take all necessary precautions that are relevant for our workforce. The FIA and promoter have far better access to information than we have, and we'll trust in their judgement at the end of the day."
