Rigon hoping for Ferrari run in 2012

20 February 2012

On the run-up to the new Formula 1 season, Ferrari has confirmed Davide Rigon in an enhanced role for simulator work alongside Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. However, the Italian admits that driving the race car remains a solid ambition.

Although he has not been confirmed as official reserve driver for the Scuderia, 25-year-old Rigon effectively takes the place of Jules Bianchi, who is still a Ferrari employee but for 2012 has been loaned to Force India as their reserve driver.

“I am improving my work on the simulator and my responsibilities have grown,” Rigon, who stems from the city of Thiene, explained to F1WEB.it.

“Without testing, a lot more now rests on the simulator work. It's a great honour to be part of this extraordinary family and it was special to make friends with Felipe and Fernando.”

When asked if he will be able to drive the Ferrari F2012 this year, Rigon replied:

“At the moment I don’t know because I’m just 100 percent focussed on the simulator, but I can’t deny that I would like to participate in some testing during the season.”

To drive the Ferrari during the year, Rigon could either take part in a Friday practice session at a Grand Prix event or, more likely, conduct one of four permitted straight-line aerodynamic tests away from race weekends as he did last year.
