Jenson Button does not believe Red Bull will start the 2012 Formula 1 season with such an advantage as it did in 2011. Although the Milton Keynes squad is tipped by many to be the best for raw pace in pre-season testing, McLaren is expected to be significantly closer.
“I am hoping my team-mate is going to be the one who is difficult to beat, because it means we’ve got a bloody good car!” Button told GPUpdate.net and gathered journalists. “Seb (Vettel) is obviously the favourite, as he should be – he’s won the last two World Championships.
“There have been regulation changes but I still think Red Bull will be strong this year, from the word ‘go’. I don’t think they will have the advantage they had at the start of the season last year, but you would have to say Seb (as the favourite) because of the last two years they have had – the experience they have been through and what they have achieved.”
Button will continue McLaren’s winter programme on Friday.
