Kamui Kobayashi lowered the benchmark time over the entire Barcelona test and also completed the most mileage of anyone in a single day, rounding the Spanish circuit 144 times. The Japanese driver was feeling positive after adding more than 650 kilometres to Sauber's tally.
“I’m quite happy," he began. "We achieved a very good mileage today. The set up changes we did in the morning meant an improvement in lap times, which, of course, is very positive.
The 25 year-old spent the day evaluating test items and doing qualifying practice before they switched to longer runs in the afternoon.
"There is still a lot of work to do in terms of understanding the car and the different tyre compounds at different fuel levels, but we are working in the right direction. I think it was a good test for us.”
Sauber return to Barcelona with every team but Ferrari and Red Bull who begin a day later. Sergio Pérez will alternate sessions behind the wheel with Kobayashi, taking the first day on the 1st March.
