Hülkenberg yet to complete race simulation
2 March 2012 – Nico Hülkenberg could only lament eight red flags as Formula 1 testing continued in Barcelona on Friday. Having caused one of them due to a faulty drive line, the Force India driver managed only a single lap in the afternoon and 36 in total.
“The morning was quite affected by red flags!” Hülkenberg laughed when talking to GPUpdate.net. “I caused one of them. But you’re in the garage, you want to get on with the programme or you are just starting a run, and the red flags come out. Obviously it’s not ideal but that happens in testing.”
When quizzed over his personal delay, the German replied:
“We had a problem with the drive line, gearbox-related stuff. It was nothing we have had before. Today was a bit compromised, with only 36 laps. We obviously wanted to do many, many more runs but we didn’t run in the afternoon apart from one lap; so that’s not ideal, but it still looks positive overall.”
Yet to enjoy a full race simulation, Hülkenberg added that this remains his prime objective for what will be his final winter day on Sunday. Paul di Resta drives the car tomorrow.
