Having started pre-season testing in promising form, Force India discovered some issues when track running continued in Barcelona on Saturday. Paul di Resta drove the car in what was the Scot’s final outing of the winter, with team-mate Nico Hülkenberg now stepping in for the second half of the weekend.
“We did a reasonable run; it was good to get a bit of an impression of how the car is over a race distance and where we are,” di Resta explained to reporters including GPUpdate.net, standing at the back of the Force India garage.
“Clearly, there is some work to do. We have identified some problems today, in terms of balance, which we need to work on and I’m sure the guys will take some movement on that overnight to understand it better going into Melbourne.”
When asked to pinpoint the Silverstone team’s pace, the 2011 rookie replied:
“It’s very open at the moment, I’m not going to say too much. I’m not going to predict too much because there is a big variation in people’s performances at different times. That’s the way it is and I’m sure everybody’s got the same opinion all the way up the paddock.”
Although the timesheets reveal little at this point of the year, di Resta ended the day fifth quickest with a best effort of 1:22.446 - just under four tenths down on the best time of Sergio Pérez.
