Vettel hindered by Sunday gearbox problem
4 March 2012 – World Champion Sebastian Vettel has faced a difficult final day of pre-season testing in Barcelona, most of which has been spent in the garage as Red Bull attempts to cure a gearbox issue. With 90 minutes to go, the German had completed only 15 laps.
This weekend has marked a crucial two days for the title-holding team, which on Saturday morning rolled out a highly updated package when Mark Webber was at the wheel.
Effectively a b-spec version of the RB8, the car now sports modified wings, sidepods and, most crucially, exhausts which are believed to blow the rear suspension and generate superior levels of grip.
It remains to be seen whether Vettel will return to the track before the final chequered flag flies at 5pm. The latest news from Barcelona can be tracked in the interactive GPUpdate.net Live Test Report, with a full summary following after the session.
