Former Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari has joined BBC Radio 5 live for the new Formula 1 season, taking over the 'expert summariser' role from Anthony Davidson. The Spaniard, who was dropped by the aformentioned team in favour of an all-new driver pairing this year, will work alongside lead commentator James Allen.
"It will be interesting to look at the action from a different angle and bring that excitement and insight to listeners," explained Alguersuari, who hails from the city of Barcelona. "It promises to be an exciting season and I can't wait for it to start."
"We're delighted to have Jaime on board, his engaging personality makes him a great addition to 5 live for the 2012 F1 season," added BBC Radio 5 live controller Adrian van Klaveren.
"We are going to make the most of Jaime's first-hand experience right now knowing he could well be driving for one of the teams again in the near future."
Alguersuari made his F1 debut with Toro Rosso back in 2009, replacing Sébastien Bourdais from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards. He has since picked up ten points finishes, securing a personal best result of seventh place in Italy and Korea last year.
