Sebastian Vettel is looking to tactically find a way into the Malaysian Grand Prix battle by using a different tyre strategy. The Champion, who starts fifth on the grid, is the only man in the top ten to start Sunday’s race on the more durable Hard tyre compound.
Although the move has been viewed by most as a strategy plan, Vettel played down any possible advantages when he was surrounded by reporters after the session.
“There’s not much strategy behind it, to be honest. I was struggling on the softer tyre and thought I had a better car on the harder tyres,” the German explained.
“We went significantly faster on the harder tyre. Whether that is an advantage…(pause)…we are the only ones, so we hope it will be, but we’ll see! We had not such a great time in Australia but, nevertheless, there is plenty of work to do so we’ll push hard.”
