Räikkönen lamenting mistakes and penalty
24 March 2012 – Qualifying for the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix will not be remembered as the best for Kimi Räikkönen, who drops to tenth on the grid due to a five-place gearbox penalty. Despite this, the 2007 World Champion admits he still could have been better-placed had he not made several mistakes on his final lap in Q3.
“It feels okay,” the Lotus driver told journalists. “It’s a bit of a shame we’re only going to be tenth but the car is working well and I did a small mistake in a few corners which cost us a few tenths.
“With the absolute perfect lap, we had the speed today to be in front – but we didn’t have it. It’s okay in the dry but once you stop you feel the heat. The car was working well, it was quite hot on the circuit but no issues with that so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”
Team-mate Romain Grosjean will set off from sixth place.
