Alonso: Ninth is the best possible result
Fernando Alonso starts ninth in Malaysia, having struggled to match the speed of the front-runners throughout qualifying. After the session, the Spaniard told reporters that no more was possible with the currently off-the-pace Ferrari F2012.
“We are not competitive,” Alonso said. “We suffered a difficult qualifying so we did our lap in Q3 and knew it wasn’t possible to compete with the guys in front. Ninth is okay and with Kimi (Räikkönen)’s penalty it becomes eighth, so at the end of the day it’s the best result possible.”
Team-mate Felipe Massa remained slower than Alonso and starts 12th.
