Red Bull may have dominated the 2011 Formula 1 season, winning both the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix with Sebastian Vettel, but the reigning Champions are yet to take a chequered flag this year. Despite this fact, Mark Webber is confident that the Milton Keynes outfit still has good reason to be confident.
“There’s still plenty of positives for us this weekend,” Webber said after the race, in which he finished fourth and Vettel failed to score after hitting Narain Karthikeyan.
“We would have had a better result but there were some inspired calls in front of us and you have to your hat off to those guys (race winner Fernando Alonso and Sergio Pérez; when you are in a position to roll the dice a bit, you can sometimes get a double six and those guys did today.
“I was feeling more confident before the red flag. It took me too long to get comfortable with the car when we switched to Inters after the restart…it wasn’t very Formula 1, driving around with so little grip for that very long stint I did.”
F1 now heads to China, for Round 3 in three weeks’ time; in 2011, Webber delivered an inspired drive to finish on the podium from the back of the field.
