Kovalainen refreshed as China approaches

5 April 2012

Heikki Kovalainen hopes to kick-start Caterham’s 2012 campaign as the season resumes in China next weekend. The Anglo-Malaysian team, which had aimed for Q2 qualifying results this year, was unable to meet that target in Australia or Malaysia.

Kovalainen has been spending his three-week break in Abu Dhabi, at the home of his girlfriend’s parents. As well as training in a time zone which is less of an offset from China than Finland or England, he has played golf with professional footballers Lee Sharpe and Les Ferdinand.

“I've been in Abu Dhabi since leaving Malaysia, staying with my girlfriend Catherine's parents so I can keep up the training regime and avoid the full jetlag that can kick in when you return to Europe,” he explains. “I'm feeling really good, back to 100 percent after the bug I had in Malaysia, and I just want to get back out on-track.”

Kovalainen’s best Shanghai result to date is his fifth place with McLaren in 2009.
