Heikki Kovalainen is calling for Pastor Maldonado to receive a penalty in China, with the Finn claiming that the Venezuelan slowed him in the first phase of qualifying.
"It was unnecessary for Pastor,” the Caterham driver told Sky Sports. “I was on a hot lap, he was on an out-lap and weaving all over the back straight. He had no intention of letting me by. I think it was a rookie mistake and he might have to pay for that. He then made sure he had a good gap to start his lap.”
As Kovalainen was eliminated in Q1 and in 19th place, his Williams rival went on to qualify 13th ahead of team-mate Bruno Senna. Incidentally, another ongoing stewards’ investigation involves the Brazilian and HRT’s Pedro de la Rosa.
