Rosberg: Winning is an unbelievable feeling
15 April 2012 – Nico Rosberg became Formula 1’s 103rd different race victor in Shanghai on Sunday, winning the Chinese Grand Prix in dominant fashion. On an historic day, the 26-year-old also became the first Mercedes winner since 1955 and the seventh German to take the chequered flag in the sport.
“An unbelievable feeling,” said the delighted son of 1982 World Champion Keke. “Very cool. Very happy and very excited…this has been a long time coming for me and for the team. We didn’t expect to be this fast today.”
Rosberg, who had also sealed a career-first pole position on Saturday, made his F1 debut with Williams in 2006 and had previously finished on the podium five times.
“It’s fantastic,” he continued. “Thank you to the whole team for working so hard and improving the setup. I struggled in the first two races (no points) but it all came good here. It just couldn’t be better. I’m very happy – it was a great race.”
Team-mate Michael Schumacher was running second before a botched pit-stop left him with a loose wheel. Rosberg is F1’s first new winner since Mark Webber in 2009.
