He may have been disappointed to miss out on a chance of victory in Shanghai, as McLaren fumbled the left-rear wheel change in his final pit-stop, but Jenson Button could only praise Formula 1 after a highly dramatic Chinese Grand Prix.
The 2012 season has so far delivered an assortment of dramas and stories both on and off the track, not least as three different teams have won in Australia, Malaysia and China. On Sunday, trains of cars could be seen battling throughout the afternoon.
“This race for me is what Formula 1 is all about,” Button said on the BBC’s F1 Forum. “You’ve got amazing overtakes, four World Champions fighting together and chasing down Nico (Rosberg), the guy who’s winning his first Grand Prix.
“Formula 1 is in such a good place right now. The first two races of the year have been exceptional and this one is above that so, hopefully, we can continue like this. It was great fun, which is what you want.”
Button’s race included a strong pass on reigning Champion Sebastian Vettel at the Turn 14 hairpin. After his pit-stop problem left him in traffic, the Englishman was able to fight back to second place and finished 20 seconds behind the victor.
